Flight operations at Imphal Airport were temporarily suspended as a precautionary safety measure this afternoon after a drone was sighted, raising security concerns.
An Indigo flight from Agartala to Imphal, flying at an altitude between 3,600 and 4,000 feet, reported the drone around 13:57 IST (1:57 pm) on its final approach path from the city side. Normal operations resumed only after the incident was promptly reported to Manipur Police and necessary security clearance was obtained.
To ensure public safety, the airport authority has strictly advised against operating drones in and around the airport vicinity, including Imphal City (East & West), Nambol, and Bishnupur areas. Serious action will be taken against any unauthorized drone operations, as they pose a significant risk to aircraft safety, which may lead to temporary airport closures and cause major inconvenience to passengers.
