RPI (A) Leader Links Deluge to Poppy-Driven Deforestation
Heavy rainfall last night triggered massive flooding across several localities of Lamlai Assembly Constituency, leaving houses, rice fields, fish ponds, vegetable farms, and poultry units submerged.
While property loss was extensive, no casualties have been reported.
RPI (A) Manipur Vice President Sapamcha Kangleipal, who rushed to the affected sites for rescue and assessment, voiced deep concern over large-scale deforestation in the hill catchments due to poppy cultivation.
He alleged that the unchecked clearing of forests has worsened soil erosion and flooding, directly impacting vulnerable valley farmers.
Kangleipal assured that his party will extend all possible support to the victims, particularly poultry farmers who suffered heavy losses, and urged the government to adopt strong measures against poppy-driven deforestation to prevent recurring disasters.
