The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), a prominent Meitei civil society body in Manipur, on Monday appealed to all communities in the state, including the Kuki community, to restore peaceful coexistence as existed in the past.
Addressing the media on the sidelines of a One-Day Academic Discourse on “Normalisation in Manipur”, Wahengbam Thoi Meetei, Joint Secretary of FOCS, said that the Imphal Valley does not belong exclusively to the Meitei community and poses no threat to any other community residing in the state.
The academic discourse was organised by FOCS at Sangai Hall, Hotel Imphal, Imphal East, bringing together academicians, civil society representatives, and community leaders to deliberate on pathways for restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
The programme was presided over by Acting President of FOCS, BM Yaima Shah, and moderated by retired Professor of Anthropology, Manipur University, W. Nabakumar.
The discourse featured in-depth discussions on peace-building, governance, and social harmony, with participants stressing that lasting normalcy in Manipur can only be achieved through inclusive and people-focused approaches.
FOCS stated that such academic engagements are essential for fostering dialogue, mutual understanding, and peaceful coexistence among the diverse communities of Manipur.
