JAN 22, 2026 (IMP): Widespread condemnation has poured in from various quarters against the merciless killing of Mayanglambam Rishikanta (38) by suspected Kuki militants at the Natjang area of Henglep sub-division in Churachandpur on 21st Jan, and the Federation of Civil Societies Organisations (FOCS) has demanded that the case be handed over to the NIA for thorough investigation and befitting punishment of the killer.
The FOCS, in its statement issued to the press, opined that it has now come to a suspicion that some elite group with vested interest is deliberately trying to derail the peace initiatives and efforts being taken up by the government and CSOs, with a series of unwanted recent incidents that have taken place.
The FOCS also said it is high time that both the central paramilitary and state forces deployed in the state need to work sincerely without bias to restore peace in the state, and every stakeholder also needs to work concertedly to restore normalcy.
It may be mentioned that the deceased was reportedly abducted from a quarter in the Jail Campus of Tuibong town last night by armed miscreants, and later videos of the execution appeared from a location reported to be from the Henglep area of Churachandpur district.
