FOCS Urges an End to Irresponsible Behavior at Khongjom War Memorial

Feb. 08, 2025 : The Federation of Civil Societies’ Organisation (FOCS) has made a strong appeal to safeguard the sanctity of the Khongjom War Memorial Complex in Thoubal district, cautioning individuals against indulging in drinking, partying, and other disrespectful behaviors within the historic site.

The declaration was made by the President of FOCS, Th. Manihar, today on the concluding day of a mega social service camp. He warned that anyone found engaging in such activities should be held accountable for the consequences.

The mega cleanliness drive, which commenced on December 15 last year, was organized by the FOCS Thoubal District in collaboration with local clubs and residents.

The initiative aimed to restore and conserve the historical landmark, which has often been neglected except during the annual celebration of Khongjom Day.

President Th. Manihar highlighted the pressing need to preserve the site and called on the government to take responsibility for its upkeep.

“This historical site is a testament to the bravery and sacrifices of our forefathers. It is disheartening to see it being misused for drinking and other disrespectful activities,” he said.

Manihar stressed that the government must not limit its attention to the site during ceremonial occasions.

He demanded the introduction of a special budget or package for the maintenance and preservation of the Khongjom War Memorial Complex in the upcoming Assembly session.

FOCS also urged the public to take collective responsibility in preserving the heritage of the war memorial and to abstain from activities that dishonor its historical significance.
