In what could be considered as the most shocking and deadly crime in the field of sports, an incident has come to light from Imphal East, Manipur, where a coach and proprietor of a football academy has been arrested by the police for allegedly sexually assaulting 11 under-15 students residing at the academy’s boarding facility in Heingang Assembly Constituency.
The accused has been identified as Nongthombam Mangalsana Meetei (45), a resident of Kontha Khabam Maning Leikai, Imphal East, and the proprietor of Mangal Football Academy, located at Khabam Lamkhai, Imphal East.
The matter came to light during a parents’ meet when the young players confided in their guardians about the abuse. Following the revelations, the guardians alerted the media and contacted the police, leading to a formal case being registered at Heingang Police Station.
The guardians have strongly demanded the immediate cancellation of the football academy’s licence and urged the concerned authorities to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
