Feb. 16, 2025: A friendly football match highlighted a one-day legal awareness programme on the rights and entitlements of LGBTQIA+ community members, organised by the District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West, in collaboration with Ya_All: The Youth Network, Imphal, under the aegis of the Manipur State Legal Services Authority.
The event was held today at Chumthang Shannapung, Imphal West, Manipur.
The programme aimed to raise awareness about the legal rights, entitlements, and protections available to the LGBTQIA+ community, alongside providing insights into key Supreme Court cases. It sought to ensure the rights of this often-marginalised group are recognised and upheld. The session featured interactive discussions, legal insights, and case studies addressing the critical issues faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly in relation to their legal standing and societal acceptance.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Yumkham Rother, District & Sessions Judge, Imphal West, and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West. Ashem Tarunakumari Devi, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, and Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West, led the session.
Attendees included staff from the Manipur State Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authorities, and members of Ya_All: The Youth Network, Imphal. The programme concluded with a football match, symbolising unity, sportsmanship, and a shared commitment to equality and human rights for all.
