For Supporting Waqf (Amendment) Bill, Mob Turns Properties into Cinder

The BJP Minority Morcha President Md Asker Ali Makakmayum’s residence, including valuable and household items, has been completely reduced to cinder after the unruly mob attack that set ablaze the house, located in Lilong, Thoubal District of Manipur.

The attack is believed to have been triggered by a social media post where he expressed his support for the bill, posting, “Don’t do politics over WAQF. Welcome, Bill. We Support WAB.” Following the post, he reportedly received threats and intense pressure. A video later surfaced on social media showing him apologizing and appealing for forgiveness—allegedly under duress. However, on the other side, videos appeared of his residence rising in flames.

Police have initiated an investigation into the arson and are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that peace and order are maintained.

In light of the incident, the District Magistrate has imposed prohibitory orders under CrPC 144 in parts of Thoubal district to prevent any further disturbances. No official statement has been issued by the Governor’s office so far. This incident marks the first major outbreak of violence since the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur.
