Forces Raze 15 Acres of Poppy Worth Rs 7.5 Lakh Near Indo-Myanmar Border

A joint team of the Assam Rifles, BSF and Tengnoupal Police reportedly destroyed around 15 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in the general area of Samukom, Tengnoupal district, following what sources described as a specific intelligence-based operation.

According to a release, the forces conducted extensive reconnaissance of the rugged terrain and located several clusters of fully matured poppy plants spread across the remote hill zone.

The coordinated operation led to the complete destruction of the illegal crops, which were estimated to be worth around Rs 7.5 lakh.

It indicated that the bust represents a significant blow to narcotics production networks believed to be funding organised crime and insurgent activities along the Indo-Myanmar corridor.

The action was described as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and reinforce stability in Manipur’s hill districts.

Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles, working closely with the BSF and local police, is said to be intensifying anti-narcotics operations in vulnerable areas.

They have appealed to local communities to discontinue unlawful cultivation and shift towards sustainable and legal farming practices.
