Thoubal, Nov. 8: As part of the campaign against illegal bird trapping, the Forest Department carried out a special drive on Saturday under the supervision of Dr. Leishangthem Jeeceelee, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Thoubal Forest Division. The drive was conducted by two teams from the Kakching Forest Range.
According to reports, the operation was led by Range Officer Sundar Huidrom, with the active participation of Pallel Beat Officer Nameirakpam Bikramjit and Forester H. Sanamatum, under the overall coordination of Waikhong Beat Officer Brojen. The drive was carried out in various locations along the Turelmei and Kharung Pat areas within the Range in the early morning. During the operation, 16 bird-trapping nets were found and seized.
Range Officer Sundar Huidrom stated that a large number of migratory birds have recently arrived in the region, and some individuals are attempting to trap them illegally. He further warned that anyone found trapping or hunting birds in the wetlands or nearby fields will face strict legal action under the Wildlife Protection Act.
