Forest officials slash off miscreants’ efforts to trap migratory birds

JAN 13, 2026 (KANG/IMP): Illegal efforts to trap migratory birds by unknown miscreants in Kharungpat Wetlands were slashed off in advance by forest staff, and at least 14 bird-trapping nets were seized in a drive on Wednesday.

The forest officials conducted a special drive since the wee hours of the morning at the Turel Mamie area of Kharungpat Wetland as part of their continuous drives to check wetlands and save migratory birds and other wildlife animals from being trapped illegally by miscreants.

The said drive was conducted by a forest official team comprising staff of Kakching Range and Pallel Beat Office, led by Forester H. Sanamatum, under the guidance of Range Officer Huidrom Sunder of Kakching Forest Range and under the overall supervision of DFO Thoubal Dr. Leishangthem Jeeceelee.

In connection with the drive, Range Officer Huidrom Sunder stated that trapping migratory birds and others is illegal and that the practice of such acts should be stopped at any cost. He added that without the help of the public, only the forest officials cannot save our migratory friends.
