Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren, who flew back to Imphal from Delhi this afternoon after a BJP high-level meeting, termed the fresh firing in Torbung as an “unfortunate” incident that hampers the resettlement process, while responding to media queries at Imphal International Airport on Friday.
“I appreciate the initiative taken by the Indian Army/Gurkha Regiment today to reach out to the people of Torbung in the aftermath of the recent attack by armed Kuki militants. Such engagement and sensitisation of the local population about the steps being taken on the ground will help ease fear, reduce mistrust, and calm prevailing tensions.” Earlier in the day, N. Biren Singh posted on X, appreciating the security forces for reaching out to the locals of Torbung to ensure security.
Meanwhile, referring to the recent high-level meeting in Delhi, he said the discussion was leading in a good direction, with concerted efforts to restore peace and normalcy, bring more development, and revive the Assembly.
Apart from the current issue, various core issues were discussed during the meeting, he added.
He also informed the media that all BJP MLAs attended the meeting together, except three who were absent due to personal inconveniences.
