La Ganesan, former Governor of Manipur and serving Governor of Nagaland, passed away in Chennai today at the age of 80. He had been admitted to Apollo Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit after sustaining a head injury in a fall at his residence in T. Nagar on August 8, where he was found unconscious. Despite intensive medical attention, his condition failed to improve, and he breathed his last at 6:23 pm.
A veteran politician, Ganesan played a prominent role in the Bharatiya Janata Party, serving as Tamil Nadu BJP president and holding several organisational posts during his career. He was known for his grassroots outreach, strong party loyalty, and administrative skills.
Appointed as the Governor of Nagaland in February 2023, Ganesan had earlier served as the Governor of Manipur and briefly held additional charge of West Bengal. His political journey and decades of service left a mark on both state and national politics.
