June 13, 2026 : The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has alleged the detection of serious irregularities at several examination centres during inspections conducted in connection with the ongoing Manipur University Undergraduate Sixth Semester examinations.
According to DESAM, inspection teams visited a number of examination centres in Thoubal and Kakching districts on June 12 to assess whether examinations were being conducted fairly and in accordance with established norms.
DESAM claimed that irregularities were observed at several centres, including Thoubal College and Waikhom Mani Girls’ College in Thoubal district.
The student body alleged that candidates appearing at the Waikhom Mani Girls’ College examination centre were found using mobile phones during the examination. The organisation further alleged that the OC and invigilators failed to prevent such practices and instead allowed them to continue.
The student body also alleged that at the Thoubal College examination centre, some invigilators were found assisting candidates rather than preventing the use of unfair means.
DESAM stated that similar observations were made during inspections at Pole Star College and Kha Manipur College examination centres in Kakching district. It alleged that candidates were able to carry and use mobile phones inside examination halls without intervention from the authorities concerned.
Expressing concern over the alleged incidents, DESAM stated that such practices undermine the credibility of higher education in the state. The organisation demanded strict disciplinary and legal action against examination centre OCs and invigilators found responsible for facilitating or ignoring malpractice.
Among its demands, DESAM called for the four examination centres where irregularities were allegedly detected to be barred from hosting examinations for the next four years. The student body also sought the replacement of the Director and Commissioner of Higher Education, alleging a lack of effective oversight of the examination process.
