Feb 10, 2026 (Litan/Imphal): Litan in Manipur’s Ukhrul district reported an incident of fresh firing early this morning, and the firing is said to be continuing at the time of filing this report, creating panic and fear among residents.
Several new houses, which were left abandoned, were also reportedly set ablaze during the night and early morning hours.
According to preliminary reports, 21 houses were burnt down till yesterday evening, while additional incidents during the night and early morning hours have increased the number to around 30 houses or possibly more, though the exact figure is yet to be officially confirmed.
Residents from both communities—the Kuki and Tangkhul—have been seen fleeing their homes and shifting to safer locations with their belongings as tension continues to grip the area.
Heavy security forces have been deployed in and around Litan to control the situation. However, despite the deployment, the situation remains highly volatile, with firing still being reported.
Yesterday, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh appealed for peace and restraint among the people of the area. An emergency meeting was also held involving representatives of both communities and concerned authorities, including the district administration.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho (Naga), MLA Ram Muivah (Naga), and Kimneo Haokip (Kuki). However, no concrete solution or resolution emerged from the meeting.
As of now, no injuries or deaths have been reported.
The situation in the area remains tense, and authorities are closely monitoring developments.
