Gaigongdin Panmei, Retired IRS Officer, Joins BJP

Imphal, July 9: Gaigongdin Panmei, a retired Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from 53-Tamenglong Assembly Constituency, formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a function held at Thambal Sanglen, Imphal.

The induction ceremony was led by Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Manipur State President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, who welcomed Panmei into the party and handed over the BJP Active Membership Card. The programme was attended by MLA Dinganglung Gangmei, State General Secretaries K Sarat Kumar and Meetei Premananda, besides party leaders and karyakartas.

Speaking after joining the party, Panmei said his decision to enter politics came after completing 35 years of service with the Government of India as an IRS officer. He said that while the civil service offers opportunities to contribute to governance, meaningful structural change requires political leadership and public participation.

Panmei stated that he was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and the principle of inclusive development. He added that his priority would be to work for the progress of Manipur, with special attention to the development of Tamenglong district, ensuring that its people benefit equally from the country’s growth and development.
