Thoubal, Feb 8 : A get-together programme for pensioners of the 10 Assam Regiment, Manipur, was held on Saturday at the conference hall of Spice Hotel, Wangjing, in Thoubal district.
The programme was attended by the Inspector General, Assam Rifles (South Manipur), Major General Gourav Sharma, SC, SM, as the Chief Guest. Honorary Captain S. Bimol Singh from Lamding and W. Sanahanba of Pourabi, former senior members of the 10 Assam Regiment, attended the programme as President and Guest of Honour respectively.
The pensioners of the 10 Assam Regiment, who had served the nation selflessly in different parts of the country over the years, expressed deep emotional satisfaction at getting an opportunity to reunite once again.
The gathering provided a platform for them to relive memories of service, camaraderie, and shared experiences, creating an atmosphere filled with warmth, respect, and nostalgia.
Addressing the pensioners, Major General Gourav Sharma appreciated their sacrifices and dedication, stating that although many years may have passed since their active service, their contributions and memories would always remain alive.
He said that soldiers are often posted in different places for long periods, due to which even people from their own neighbourhoods may not fully know them. “Even if others do not know us, our unit always recognises and remembers us,” he remarked.
Major General Sharma, who had earlier served as the Commanding Officer of the 119 Assam Regiment before assuming charge as Inspector General in the Assam Rifles, said that the Assam Regiment is like a family. He added that even though he is presently serving in the Assam Rifles, he proudly considers himself a member of the Assam Regiment.
He further informed the pensioners that they could contact him at any time in case of problems, assuring them of support and guidance.
The interaction and guidance provided by Major General Gourav Sharma during the programme deeply encouraged the pensioners. He emphasised that his priority is to understand and address both collective and personal problems of veterans, urging everyone to remain united and strong.
