Gov launches Anti-Extortion Cell, People can alert at toll free 1800 202 3326

Imphal, January 26, 2024 – The Government of Manipur has announced the establishment of an Integrated Anti-Extortion Cell under the Home Department. This initiative, comprising representatives from the State Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and Assam Rifles/Army, aims to tackle extortion-related crimes and ensure public safety.

The Anti-Extortion Cell will operate 24/7, and a toll-free helpline number, 1800 202 3326, has been introduced for the public and officials to report incidents of threats, extortion calls, messages, or demand letters from unlawful groups.

According to press statement issued by Manipur Chief secretary, Reports suggest that various individuals, including government officials, have been subjected to severe threats from such groups, posing a significant threat to law and order in the state. In response, the government is urging citizens to report these incidents to the Anti-Extortion Cell for prompt action, while also advising people to avoid visiting unsafe locations.

“The Government of Manipur remains committed to combating these unlawful activities and safeguarding citizens from disturbing extortion demands,” stated Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh in the press release.
