Imphal: Feb 1 The Government of Manipur has taken a firm stance against the recent outbreak of violence during a critical operation against illicit poppy cultivation in Lhungjang Village, Saikul.
An FIR has been filed at Saikul Police Station in response to the aggressive actions that disrupted the lawful destruction drive led by the Kangpokpi District Police, CRPF, and Executive Magistrate.
Despite efforts to enforce the law and combat the drug menace, a large armed mob obstructed the operation, resulting in the vandalism of three police vehicles and threats against law enforcement personnel, said a press note issued by the DIPR.
It pointed out that the situation necessitated the urgent deployment of additional forces under the supervision of SP Kangpokpi, who successfully restored order and ensured the continuation of the destruction drive.
In defiance of the mob’s aggression, approximately 45 acres of illegal poppy cultivation were successfully destroyed.
The Government of Manipur condemns this violent opposition in the strongest terms and reaffirms its commitment to pursuing stringent legal action against all perpetrators involved, including individuals linked to the incident.
The administration remains steadfast in its resolve to eradicate illicit poppy cultivation across the state, emphasizing zero tolerance towards any attempts to hinder the ongoing War on Drugs campaign.
