And with the time for the annual Shirui Lily Festival around the corner, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired the 1st organizing committee meeting at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, on Wednesday. The discussion focused on ensuring a smooth and grand festival, covering transportation, security, infrastructure, hospitality, and cultural programs, with the participation of senior officials from various departments, according to Raj Bhavan information.
The Shirui Lily Festival is an annual event in Manipur, celebrating the state flower, the Shirui Lily, which is found only in the Shirui Hills. The festival aims to increase awareness about the Shirui Lily and promote sustainable and responsible tourism in Manipur.
The festival is a colorful celebration with traditional activities, including dance and music performances, traditional games and competitions, art and handicraft exhibitions, ethnic food eateries, adventure activities like camping and biking, and a musical extravaganza, ‘Shirock,’ with live music concerts and competitions.
The festival takes place in the Ukhrul district of Manipur, home to the Tangkhul Naga tribe and the Shirui Hills.
The Shirui Lily is a unique species of ground lily, found only in the Shirui Hills, making it a rare and special flower.
