Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla Launches 60-Day Tobacco Free Youth Campaign Across Manipur

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla inaugurated the State Level Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0 at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, today. Organised by the National Health Mission, Manipur, in association with the Directorate of Health Services under the National Tobacco Control Program, the campaign began with participants taking a pledge to abstain from all forms of tobacco.

Commissioner (Health) Sumant Singh, along with the Directors of Family Welfare and IPR, attended the ceremony. Officers from the Social Welfare, Information Technology, Home, and Police Departments were also present.

The six-day campaign is structured around six key objectives: raising public awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco, enhancing compliance of Tobacco Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI), promoting Tobacco Free Villages, enforcing the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA) 2019, amplifying social media engagement, and capacity building.

Governor Bhalla instructed officials to ensure the campaign is implemented as a sustained effort to eliminate tobacco use and safeguard the youth. He emphasized the need for dedicated efforts from all officers to make the initiative impactful and successful. The campaign will be rolled out across all districts in Manipur.
