Governor Applauds Conservation Efforts at State Orchidarium

The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with First Lady Jyoti Bhalla, paid a visit to the State Orchidarium at Khonghampat, maintained by the Forest Department of Manipur. The dignitaries were received by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force (PCCF & HOFF), Anurag Bajpai, along with other senior officials of the department.

Marking the beginning of the plantation season, the Governor and First Lady launched the activity by planting Heirangoi (Garcinia spp.), a wild fruit species valued for its nutritional, ecological, and cultural significance.

The Governor later toured the Orchid Display House and walked the trek route, observing the blooming of rare and endangered orchid species. The visit also included an inspection of the Ground Orchid Plots.

As part of the programme, the Governor and First Lady viewed two short films produced by the Forest Department—one highlighting the rich diversity of “Orchids of Manipur” and another documenting the rejuvenation of a dried natural spring in Langol Reserved Forest, an initiative benefiting the residents of Kameng village.

The Governor lauded the Department’s efforts in conservation and community outreach, encouraging officials to replicate such impactful initiatives across the State.
