Governor Disapproves Road Improvement Work Under MLA Local Area Development Fund

Kakching, November 9: The long-standing demand of the people of Kakching and nearby areas for improving the condition of NH-137(A) will need to wait further. The Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Valla, has disapproved the proposal submitted by Kakching A/C MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar for repairing certain portions of the NH-137(A) stretch—from Kakching Lamkhai to Kakching Bazar—using the MLA Local Area Development Fund.

It may be mentioned that this road stretch has been in a deteriorated condition for a long time, causing great inconvenience to the public. To address the grievances of the people and improve connectivity with other adjoining constituencies in Kakching district, MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar submitted a detailed proposal along with necessary documents and photographs to the Governor on August 30, seeking permission to repair the road by using paver block technology or black-topping from the MLA Local Area Development Fund.

According to the official communication issued earlier on October 27 by H. Balkrisna, Joint Secretary, Government of Manipur, the road improvement work falls under the non-eligible category of projects permissible within the MLA Local Area Development Fund Scheme and will be executed under the supervision of the Public Works Department (PWD).
