Governor Stresses Gandhi’s Message of Self-Reliance on Cleanliness Day

Emphasizing Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless message of self-reliance, the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, said that people must take responsibility for their own growth as well as the progress of society. He was speaking at the observance of National Cleanliness Day / Swachh Bharat Diwas at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Imphal, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

The Governor led the gathering in offering floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, former Chief Minister, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP, senior civil and police officials, and members of the public also joined in paying respects to the Father of the Nation.

Highlighting the achievements of the Swachh Bharat Mission, he said Manipur has made significant progress in sanitation and waste management, with recognition at the national level. These achievements, he noted, reflect the collective efforts of citizens, local bodies, and the state government towards building a healthier environment.

The Governor further said that initiatives like Make in India are opening new opportunities for the youth of Manipur, with indigenous products and handloom gaining recognition while generating livelihoods. He appealed to citizens to adopt cleanliness as a way of life and to work together for a cleaner and more prosperous Manipur.

The event also featured cultural performances, including a dance choreography of Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram by the Government Dance College and an opening musical rendition by artistes of Shri Shri Bal Mukanda Dev Musical College.
