The Government of Manipur has constituted a 5-member committee headed by MAHUD Director Ngangom Uttam Singh to monitor and supervise the reconstruction of the historic Rajbari (Redlands Building) in Shillong, which is planned to be completed by March 2026 in Laitumkhrah.
According to an order from the Joint Secretary, MAHUD (Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development Department), the committee will monitor, oversee, and coordinate with stakeholders, ensuring quality, heritage compliance, and timely completion of the work.
The 5-member committee includes Ngangom Uttam, Director of MAHUD, as Chairman; the Deputy Secretary (Art and Culture) as Member Secretary; Deputy Secretary of GAD Clara Koshoni Phimu; Superintendent of Archaeology (GoM) K. Shashikanta; and Executive Engineer-I of PDA (GoM) as members.
The recent demolition of the historic Rajbari, where the Manipur Merger Agreement was signed on September 21, 1949, has evoked widespread criticism and condemnation from various quarters, and now only the base structure remains.
