Amidst demands from several quarters to abrogate the SoO with Kuki militant groups, the Government of India has signed the extension of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement with the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the United People’s Front (UPF), whose agreements had earlier expired on February 29, 2024.
According to sources, both the KNO and UPF should completely abjure the path of violence and abide by the Constitution of India, the laws of the land, and the territorial integrity of Manipur under the SoO pact.
Both the KNO and UPF, as well as their constituents, shall not have any association, either at the organizational level or at the individual level, with any other armed group, within the country or outside. The groups shall also not undertake any offensive operations such as ambushes, raids, sniping, or attacks leading to death, injury, damage or loss of property, kidnapping, extortion, intimidation, etc., against security forces, other groups, and/or the public.
