Jan. 29, 2025 : The Zonal Education Officer, Thoubal, has mandated the closure of unrecognised private schools starting from the academic session 2025-26.
The directive, stemming from the Manipur Private School (Registration and Regulation) Rules, 2024, aims to enforce stringent conditions on educational institutions across the state, according to an office memorandum issued by the ZEO.
The memorandum highlighted that all existing unrecognised private schools, including those currently recognised but failing to meet specified criteria, must apply for registration within 90 days from the notification date of the Rules, which was November 6, 2024.
Failure to comply will result in closure within a specified timeframe, emphasising the importance of adherence to regulatory standards.
Furthermore, the directive highlights the potential penalties for non-compliance, including fines of up to Rs. 1 lakh or imprisonment for up to one year, or both. This stern approach seeks to safeguard the academic interests and future prospects of students enrolled in these schools, cautioning parents against the risks associated with sending their children to unregistered or unrecognised institutions, according to the office memorandum.
