April 6, 2026 (IMP): Two personnel of Heingang Police Station have been suspended today in connection with the escape of one PLA cadre, Nepram Lemba Meitei alias Tomba, from police custody at Heingang Police Station.
The suspended personnel have been identified as SI Md. Akbar Shah and Constable (No. 0915654) W. Juresh Singh. The arrest was made on the grounds of him being a member of the banned insurgent group RPF/PLA on Saturday.
According to reports, when a few police personnel took him out of the police station’s lock-up for urination, he seized the opportunity and escaped from custody.
The person who escaped, Nepram Lemba Meitei alias Tomba, aged 24, is the son of N. Deva, a resident of Nongada Shantipur Makha Leikai in Imphal East. He was arrested by security forces on March 31 from the Khabeisoi area under Heingang Police Station, on suspicion of being a militant of the RPF/PLA.
Following that, Heingang Police Station registered an FIR against him under the Arms Act and, as per a court order for further investigation, he was remanded to the custody of the police station.
Upon receiving information that the individual had escaped, search operations were launched by the police in various suspected locations where he might have fled. Until the time of filing this report, there is no information regarding his apprehension.
