BJP MLA Kh. Ibomcha has expressed confidence that a popular government will be formed in Manipur before the expiry of the current term of President’s Rule.
Speaking to reporters, Ibomcha said he had already issued a statement on October 10 regarding their recent visit to Delhi, which contained all relevant details. “This time, we went to Delhi to apprise the central leadership about the current political situation in Manipur. That was our first objective,” he said.
He further informed that the delegation urged the Centre to expedite the ongoing peace process and subsequently form a popular government in the state. “The Centre has assured us that a popular government will be installed soon. The extended term of President’s Rule for six months will not be further extended,” he added.
When asked whether the new government would be formed next month, Ibomcha replied, “No, no, I cannot say that. I can only say that before the current term of President’s Rule ends, a government will be formed. It may happen very soon.”
Commenting on the recent demolition of Redlands (Manipur Rajbari) in Shillong, Ibomcha termed the incident “quite unfortunate” and said, “We strongly condemn it.”
Meanwhile, four MLAs, including BJP Manipur Spokesperson Khongbantabam Ibomcha Meitei, Leishangthem Susindro Meitei, Yumnam Khemchand, and Usham Deben, returned from Delhi today. Some others are expected to return by a late flight.
