The Government of Manipur is making all-out efforts to facilitate the return of all IDPs by December this year to their respective houses. For those unable to return, government-supported temporary housing—nearly 1,000 units newly constructed—will be provided.
The plan will be rolled out in three phases. Phase one, starting in July, is for those who voluntarily wish to return and whose homes are accessible. Phase two, in October, targets those who need moderate support or minor repairs before returning. Phase three, by December, is for those who cannot return immediately as their homes are completely destroyed, informed Manipur Chief Secretary PK Singh to the media on Thursday in Imphal, after attending the 2nd Foundation Day of the Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes.
For those whose homes were completely destroyed and need rebuilding, financial aid of ₹3.03 lakh (₹1.3 lakh + ₹1.73 lakh) will be provided. According to the Chief Secretary, the displaced population, initially estimated at 62,000, has come down to around 57,000, with many beginning to return to their respective places.
