A chilling incident unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday at a children’s home in Manipur’s Imphal West district, as unidentified miscreants opened fire near midnight, triggering panic among the residents and staff.
According to police, the incident occurred around 1:40 AM at the Children’s Home for Boys located at Sagolband Meino Leirak. CCTV footage revealed that two masked individuals arrived at the premises and fired at least 7 to 8 rounds, before fleeing the scene.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the children or staff members. The children’s home, which houses around 30 boys, is operated by the United Social Development Association under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) of the Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur.
Following the gunfire, police arrived promptly and secured the area. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to track down the perpetrators.
In the aftermath, local residents launched a sit-in protest in front of the children’s home, condemning the attack and demanding increased security. The area remains tense, with police deployment continuing through the day.
