Half of Thoubal district has been facing hardship due to flood-caused submergence since Sunday. Those mainly affected constituencies include Wangkhem AC, Thoubal AC, Khangabok AC, and Wangjing-Tentha AC.
Most of the villages lying along the Thoubal River are getting submerged, causing hardship to the people.
At Yairipok Khoirom, Yairipok Bishnunaha, Yairipok Singa, and Phoudel adjacent to the Thoubal River, many houses were submerged. In this submergence at Yairipok Bishnunaha, Wangkhem AC’s MLA K. Meghachandra’s house was also affected. Similarly, in Thoubal Haokha, Khekman, and Leisangthem areas near the river, people faced adversity due to floodwaters. Water from the Wangjing River entering Lamding Khumanthem Leikai also caused many houses to be submerged.
Meanwhile, at Salungpham, under the direction of Heirok AC MLA Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam, necessary poclain machines were mobilized, and on Monday efforts were made to clear the river’s obstructed flow at Kairembikhok area, allowing submerged areas to drain. Now Salungpham’s hardship is reducing. Houses, fields, furniture houses, and farms were considerably affected on Sunday by floodwater. MLA Radheshyam personally arranged JCB and other machinery on Sunday itself. Several youths were seen helping in the affected areas and assisting villagers.
Besides, Khangabok AC MLA O. Surjakumar visited and inspected the flood situation in interior localities of Thoubal AC like Kshetrileikai, Wangmataba Mathak Leikai, Wangmataba Doctor Maning, Awang Leikai, Thoubal Bazar Maya, Ningombam, Sabaltongba, Moijing, Leishangthem, and Thoudam. Efforts are ongoing to clear blocked water flows and submerged places. The MLA is coordinating and extending help from his end to the people of those areas.
