Incessant rainfall over the past two days has led to widespread waterlogging and triggered landslides across several districts of Manipur, severely disrupting daily life and transportation.
Waterlogging was reported in multiple low-lying areas, including Konung Mamang and Sangakpham–Heingang Road in Imphal East, and Kakwa in Imphal West. Some of the paddy fields in parts of Imphal East have been submerged, raising concerns among local farmers. If the rainfall continues till evening, authorities warn of a potential flood situation due to rising river levels.
As of 12:00 PM today, the Imphal River was flowing at 785.525 meters, dangerously close to its warning level of 785.900 meters. Similarly, the Nambul River was recorded at 781.075 meters, with a warning level set at 786.700 meters.
In a precautionary measure, the Assam Rifles, also known as the Sentinels of the North East, have issued a flood relief helpline number (8652075170) via their official social media handles, urging residents to remain alert and report emergencies promptly.
Meanwhile, landslides along National Highway 37 in Kangpokpi District have severely impacted road connectivity. The affected stretch lies between K. Sinam and Sehjang villages near Nungdolan, disrupting traffic flow. Ganpati Company, the highway construction firm, is actively working to clear the debris and restore vehicular movement. Landslides were also reported in Ukhrul District, around 84 km from the state capital.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a heavy rainfall alert for several districts. Southern Manipur, including Chandel, Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Kakching, and Thoubal, is expected to experience strong winds and further heavy downpours in the coming hours.
Authorities have urged the public to stay informed through official channels and take necessary precautions as the situation evolves.
