Sekmai Assembly Constituency MLA, Heikham Dingo Singh, has highlighted the urgent need to establish multiple security outposts stretching from Tairenpokpi to Kanglatongbi as a critical step towards restoring normalcy in the conflict-affected Sekmai AC of Imphal West district.
Speaking during his visit to the Kangchup Chingkhong Relief Camp yesterday, the MLA emphasised that the immediate setup of an outpost at Kangchup would be a priority, with a formal proposal to be submitted to the concerned authorities without delay.
The visit was aimed at assessing the ongoing situation and pressing needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing at the relief camp. Heikham Dingo interacted with several individuals whose names had been reportedly removed from the list of relief recipients, acknowledging their concerns and expressing solidarity.
Reflecting on the damage inflicted upon Sekmai AC by the prolonged conflict, he reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the rehabilitation of displaced residents. This includes pushing for the reconstruction of destroyed homes to enable IDPs to return to their native localities.
Heikham Dingo also disclosed that he has been in regular contact with the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West, seeking coordinated efforts to address the challenges in the area. He mentioned that while there are signs of partial calm in some pockets of the constituency, sustained support and visible government presence are essential to maintain and build upon this stability.
In addition, the MLA revealed plans to establish an Ayush Dispensary in the Kangchup area to cater to the healthcare needs of the local population and displaced communities. He was accompanied during the visit by officials from the Lamsang Police Station and personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force.
