In a continued push to combat rising plastic pollution, EcoNetwork Manipur, in collaboration with local Self Help Groups (SHGs), carried out an intensive plastic waste collection and recycling drive at Heirok Part-II, Thokchom Leikai, this morning.
The initiative saw volunteers mobilising households to segregate and channel used plastic materials to designated collection centres, reinforcing the call for responsible waste disposal.
The collected plastic waste was handed over for recycling in coordination with Ashok Traders, with payments made based on the quantity collected. Organisers stated that the effort aims not only to reduce environmental hazards but also to promote a circular economy by ensuring used plastic is reprocessed rather than discarded indiscriminately.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives highlighted that unchecked plastic disposal clogs drainage systems, pollutes water bodies, and contributes to long-term environmental and health risks. They urged residents to practise proper segregation of household waste and avoid dumping plastic along roadsides and riverbanks.
EcoNetwork Manipur further informed that similar drives have been conducted in the past as part of its sustained environmental campaign and assured that door-to-door collection initiatives would continue, including the collection of non-plastic recyclable waste on designated days.
The organisation appealed to the public to take collective responsibility in preserving a clean and sustainable environment for future generations.
