Mizoram, one of the beautiful northeastern states of India, is now becoming a newly found transnational route for contraband drugs, especially methamphetamine tablets and heroin coming from the Myanmar side. Security forces, in two separate anti-narcotics operations, have seized drugs worth over ₹208 crore in Champhai district, bordering Myanmar.
In the first operation, the security forces recovered 128 grams of heroin, worth ₹96 lakhs, from two individuals riding a Kenbo bike near Hnahlan, a border town in Mizoram’s Champhai district, on the intervening night of July 10–11. The security personnel posted at the border town recovered the items upon searching the belongings of the two.
In a separate operation, the security patrol team near the Vawktekai area of Zokhawthar, another border town in Champhai district, recovered 33 packets of methamphetamine drugs, containing approximately 3.33 lakh tablets (37.476 kg), worth around ₹112.4 crore on July 11 at around 5 PM.
The contraband items were recovered from a rucksack (bag) that was left by two individuals, who fled the area upon seeing the security patrol team.
