In a first-of-its-kind emergency operation in the region, the Churachandpur District Administration, under the directive of Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and in coordination with the Indian Air Force and key state departments, successfully carried out a historic airdrop of essential supplies today to Santing, Saichang, and nearby villages severely impacted by massive landslides.
Triggered by a week of relentless rainfall, over 90 landslide points along the Churachandpur–Tipaimukh Road (NH-02), especially between Chiangpi and Tuilaphai, have left multiple remote villages completely cut off, leading to acute shortages of food, medicine, and critical supplies.
Responding to the growing crisis, Governor Bhalla ordered immediate intervention to ensure that stranded populations received urgent assistance. A Mi-17 helicopter of the Indian Air Force, operating from the 36 Assam Rifles helipad at Headquarters Veng, Churachandpur, successfully delivered rice, pulses, medicines, and other essentials to the Muolhoiching helipad for onward distribution.
The aerial relief mission was personally overseen by MLA Letzamang Haokip, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Home & RDM Commissioner Ashok Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S, and SDO Henglep Th. Mangminthang Gangte.
This historic airdrop marks the first time such an operation has been conducted in this terrain, symbolizing the state’s unwavering commitment to reach every citizen in times of emergency, no matter how remote or challenging the location.
Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S praised the seamless coordination among all agencies and pledged continued support to the affected communities until full normalcy is restored.
Meanwhile, on-ground restoration efforts are progressing rapidly. Teams from NHIDCL, BIPL, and other executing agencies are working round the clock to clear debris and reopen the lifeline highway.
The District Administration extended heartfelt thanks to the Indian Air Force, SDMA, Assam Rifles, and all departments who played a vital role in this life-saving operation.
