The Manipur Home Guards Employees Welfare Association (MHGEWA) has formally requested the Governor of Manipur to reconsider orders which detail 25 Home Guards volunteers from various battalions to Jiribam District, Manipur, for assistance to the District Police amidst ongoing law and order challenges.
MHGEWA President, Yanglem Mangi Singh, highlighted several concerns in a letter addressed to the Governor.
He emphasized that deploying non-resident Home Guards to Jiribam, amidst a turbulent security situation, poses significant logistical and safety challenges.
Additionally, he highlighted discrepancies in benefits provided to Home Guards compared to civil police constables, stressing the need for equitable treatment.
Furthermore, MHGEWA previously communicated the shortage of Home Guards in Manipur, particularly in newly created districts like Jiribam, advocating for local recruitment to address staffing deficiencies effectively.
In conclusion, MHGEWA urged the Governor’s intervention to cancel or review the deployment orders in the public interest, advocating for a reconsideration that aligns with legal provisions and ensures the welfare of Home Guards.
