Feb. 21, 2025: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, at the concluding function of ‘Unity Utsav’ on Thursday, said that youths of Manipur won the maximum prizes at the five-day Unity Utsav organized by Assam Rifles.
Speaking at the event, the Union Home Minister stated that considering the popularity of sports in the Northeast, PM Narendra Modi has decided to establish the country’s first sports university in Manipur.
The Union Home Minister also said the Northeast should step forward and contribute to the country’s development. He stated, “The region has more than 220 ethnic groups and more than 160 tribes. More than 200 dialects and languages are spoken, more than 50 unique festivals are celebrated, more than 30 traditional dances are performed, and more than 100 different cuisines exist in the region.”
The first-ever Unity Utsav, a five-day festival celebrating the rich cultural heritage and sportsmanship of Northeast India, successfully concluded at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi. Organized by Assam Rifles in collaboration with the North East Association for Social Welfare, the event brought together vibrant traditions under the theme ‘One Voice, One Nation.
