Horrendous Jiribam Killing: No Progress Reports After 7 Months; High Court Directs NIA for ‘Detailed Progress Report’

“It has been almost more than 7 (seven) months. There is no progress report submitted by the NIA,” and “If a charge sheet is not filed, this matter should be viewed seriously,” the High Court of Manipur stated in its order and directed the NIA to submit “the detailed progress report” on the horrendous Jiribam killing last November.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice K. Somasekhar and Justice Ahanthem Bimol Singh issued the said order on Monday after hearing a petition filed by Soram Tekendrajit. The next hearing is scheduled for July 24.

It may be mentioned that, on the 11th of November last, altogether six persons, including three minor children (that include an infant) from the Meitei community, were kidnapped from Borobeka of the Jiribam district of Manipur and killed by Kuki-Hmar militants. On the same day, an FIR was also registered.

After the incident, Telem Uttam Singh, who lost his two children and wife; Telem Mongyai Meetei, who lost his elder sister and mother; and Yurembam Sandhiya Begum, who lost her two sisters, earlier told reporters that they want the government to ensure the death penalty is given to the “Kuki militants” who kidnapped and murdered their family members.
