Feb 24, 2025: A widow’s house was burnt to ashes in Thiulon Village, Tousem Subdivision, Tamenglong District, at around 7 AM yesterday (Feb 23, 2025). The unfortunate incident occurred when the widow, Mrs. Guimanliu Kamei (aged 61), went out to attend a church service, while her daughter-in-law went to draw water from the spring.
Mrs. Guimanliu Kamei lived with two sons (one of whom is differently abled), her daughter-in-law, one granddaughter, and one grandson. It is suspected that the fire broke out from the fireplace.
Thiulon Village Authority Chairman, Mr. Abui Gangmei, told our correspondent that properties worth Rs. 1.5 lakhs were burnt to ashes. The house (kitchen) was built of wood with a tin roof. As the fire incident happened, the villagers rushed to the spot and doused the fire to prevent it from spreading to other houses.
