In a breakthrough against underground insurgent networks, security forces in Manipur have uncovered a massive stockpile of arms and ammunition and arrested four active cadres of the proscribed outfit PREPAK (PRO) during intelligence-based operations in Imphal East.
The combing and cordon-search operations, carried out with precision yesterday, led to the arrest of four individuals linked to extortion and anti-national activities.
The operatives, hailing from different parts of Imphal and Kakching, were tracked down and apprehended based on specific intelligence inputs.
Following their interrogation, security personnel recovered a huge cache of weapons hidden in the dense foothills of Kalika under Porompat Police Station.
The haul included sophisticated rifles such as SLRs and .303s, a Light Machine Gun, a modified sniper rifle, over 500 rounds of live ammunition, numerous magazines, hand grenades including Chinese and smoke grenades, detonators, and even a tube launcher with launching tubes.
