Showing public outrage, a human chain protest covering approximately 7 kilometers from Changangei Uchekon to Kwakeithel along the Imphal West stretch of Tiddim Road was organized to protest the removal of the word “Manipur” from a Manipur State Transport (MST) bus by the 4th Mahar Regiment.
The demonstration, organized by AMUCO, drew widespread participation from concerned citizens, civil society groups, and local organizations determined to safeguard the state’s identity.
The protestors accused the Government of India of executing a “divide and rule” strategy to erase Manipur’s distinct identity. They criticized top state officials, including the DGP, Chief Secretary, Security Advisor, and Governor, for allegedly ordering the act and demanded their resignation.
General Secretary of AMUCO, Leishangthem Pratap, asserted that AMUCO will continue to resist any policy that threatens Manipur’s existence and warned of further protests if the voices of the people remain unheard.
