Hundreds Protest Against SP Transfer in Kakching

Hundreds of women in Kakching district staged a protest on Thursday, opposing the sudden transfer of Superintendent of Police (SP) Priyadarshini Laishram, MPS.

Priyadarshini, who was appointed as SP (Immigration), was transferred to Kakching on March 1 and assumed office on March 3. However, just a month later, on April 1, she was reassigned to Jiribam district, sparking strong reactions from locals.

She is among several civil and police officials who have faced frequent transfers since A.K. Bhalla took charge as the Governor of Manipur. Reports suggest that some officials have been transferred up to three times within a single month, raising concerns over administrative instability.

Protesters praised SP Priyadarshini for her proactive role in maintaining law and order and fostering peace in Kakching. They also expressed apprehensions about the newly assigned SP, citing a lack of familiarity with local issues. Additionally, concerns were raised over the current Deputy Commissioner (DC), who, according to the demonstrators, is not a local Manipuri and has limited engagement with the district’s communities.

The protesters demanded a reconsideration of the transfer and urged authorities to ensure administrative stability in the district.
