Representatives of the Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur, called on the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at Raj Bhavan, Imphal. The delegation informed the Governor that Manipur emerged as the overall team champion at the 31st Sub-Junior & Senior National Thang-Ta Championship 2025 held recently in Goa.
The Governor congratulated the athletes, coaches and officials of the Association, acknowledging their dedication, discipline and the collective effort that brought honour to the State.
During the interaction, the delegation highlighted the need to further promote Thang-Ta, Manipur’s indigenous martial art, across the country. They noted that Thang-Ta sportspersons from Manipur continue to secure medals at national-level competitions, reinforcing the State’s reputation as a powerhouse in the discipline.
The team also discussed opportunities to expand participation and strengthen competitive standards, including the possibility of a Governor-led initiative to encourage the growth of Thang-Ta. They appealed for the inclusion of the martial art in the National Games, emphasising its cultural heritage and increasing popularity.
The Governor assured the delegation that their proposals would be taken up appropriately.
