Jan. 30, 2025: Calling for the adoption of Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of non-violence to restore peace in Manipur, CLP Leader O. Ibobi Singh emphasized that the nearly two-year-long violence in the state must be resolved through peaceful means.
“Not by just floral tributes, but by following his principal ideology of non-violence, we can truly honor Mahatma Gandhi,” Ibobi Singh said while addressing the gathering at the 77th Death Anniversary of the Father of the Nation at Congress Bhawan, B.T. Road, Imphal.
Ibobi pointed out that the world admires Gandhi’s weapon of non-violence, which not only won India’s independence but remains the only path to achieving lasting peace.
The observance began with a solemn floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Congress Bhawan, led by CLP Leader O. Ibobi Singh and MPCC President K. Meghachandra Singh. Senior Congress leaders, including CWC member Gaikhangam, along with party workers and supporters, joined in offering their respects.
Addressing the gathering, Ibobi Singh stressed that in the context of Manipur, Gandhi’s ideology is more relevant than ever.
“For almost two years, Manipur has suffered from unrest. It is high time that all stakeholders embrace non-violence as the only means to resolve the crisis and restore harmony in the state,” he added.
The event, organized by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), saw an overwhelming participation of party members and Gandhi followers, who reaffirmed their commitment to his principles.
