An IDP family from Kangpokpi, originally from Charhazare Meitei Leikai and currently taking shelter in the Sekmai Relief Camp, has vehemently condemned the filing of an FIR against them by certain Kuki individuals, denying the destruction or razing down of their property and the existence of their properties in Kangpokpi.
In a protest held today at Sekmai by the IDPs seeking the attention of the authorities, they informed the media that they had fled the area on the night of May 3, 2023—the day the communal strife began—and that their houses have now been destroyed. The IDPs also stated that they possess computerized official land pattas, voter identity cards, and Aadhaar cards as proof of ownership and their former residence in Charhazare.
The IDPs expressed anger over such an FIR, which they claim aims to erase their legitimate existence and ownership. They sought the support of the authorities to ensure justice and to not lose their ancestral home.
