Jan 30, 2026 (IMP/BNP): With an aim to provide income to IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) sheltering in Bishnupur district of Manipur, District Commissioner Pooja Elangbam launched the IDP-run Mobile Canteen Initiative for school students on Friday.
Such mobile canteen initiatives will be extended to all schools across the district, launching from New Model Public School at Kumbi. The canteen facility for students is expected to operate two to three times a week, as per the school’s needs.
The canteen will serve edible food items for students. During the event, the DC also interacted with the students and encouraged them to study diligently and remain focused, emphasizing that these formative years will never return.
It may be mentioned that the ethnic violence which broke out on May 2, 2023, has led to the displacement of around 60,000 people.
