Nov 16, 2025: The IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) sheltering in Sajiwa and Sawombung relief camps in Imphal East have expressed disappointment and outrightly rejected the government’s new plan to provide Rs 3 lakh for the construction of all types of houses destroyed during Manipur’s ethnic conflict.
The Apex Committee of victims’ villages informed the media that earlier, the government led by CM N. Biren Singh had announced that Rs 10 lakh in financial aid would be provided for pucca houses and Rs 7 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively, for semi-kutcha and kutcha houses.
However, the amount fixed by the present government stands at Rs 3 lakh for all types of houses damaged or destroyed during the violence, which they find difficult to understand. They demanded that the state authority provide the amount announced earlier. The IDPs also appealed to the government to reconsider and fix the amount before they launch any agitation.
