IDPs Attempt March to Lok Bhavan, Cite Government Inaction on Displacement Crisis

Hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPs) attempted to march towards Lok Bhavan in Imphal on Tuesday, citing what they described as continued government inaction in addressing the prolonged displacement crisis in Manipur.

The protesters, drawn from multiple relief camps and affected localities, assembled at different locations across the city before moving towards the Governor’s residence to submit a memorandum outlining their demands. The march reflected growing frustration over unresolved issues related to displacement and the absence of concrete measures for rehabilitation and return.

Heavy security arrangements were put in place to prevent the demonstrators from reaching Raj Bhavan. Personnel from the Rapid Action Force (RAF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Manipur Police were deployed in large numbers, with key roads sealed off, particularly around Keisampat Junction.

According to the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity, an 11-member delegation had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, and the Governor had already been apprised of the concerns raised by the displaced communities.

During the protest, demonstrators raised slogans demanding a safe and dignified return to their homes, reopening of national highways, and restoration of peace. They asserted that Manipur belongs to all its people and called for urgent and inclusive measures to resolve the crisis.

The situation remained tense but under control, with no reports of violence at the time of filing this report.
